The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a museum for Modern Art.
At this moment, the original museum building is undergoing serious reconstruction and renovation.
The museum will re-open its doors
by the end of 2009. Until then, the collection can be seen in the old PTT-building at the Oosterdokseiland near the Central Station.
A room painted by Karel Appel (CoBrA) is part of the collection. You will furthermore find: applied art, CoBrA and expressionism, Kazimir Malevich. American artists and Henri Matisse, Arte Povera, Lucebert, Piet Mondriaan and work by young sculptors, the Fuchs collection (named after the former president) and last but not least, the collection of Gijs van Tuyl (president).
